Well the EM has run its course and the better team won, Spain. Watching the game last night with my neighbors was, again, an insight into how different cultures see things, or better put, react to things differently. As soon as things started going less than perfect in the game for the German side, my neighbors began to criticize the team. It started slow at first until it became an outright tirade about the inability of the players to do anything right. By halftime, an overwhelming sense of hopelessness had crept over all of us. This attitude I saw, was reflected by the faces of the German fans in the crowd in Vienna.

This shouldn’t have surprised me. After all, I’m aware of the German’s overly critical views on things and I have a general understand that this is base upon the fear of failure. But it did strike me as strange, despite any fore knowledge I might have had. At one point, of our neighbors remarked, “the Spanish fans would be trying to fire-up their team at a time like this. But look at us. We can’t help it, we’re Germans.”

I think that I’ll put out?a podacst about this. Please do have a vote for the topic you’d like to hear about next (as discussed in the past podcast).

bundesfussballThe European Cup is in full swing in Austria and Switzerland and the German national team has made it into the semi-finals. The mood is reminiscent of the World Cup, which Germany hosted just two years ago.

arenaWith the Germany National team doing so well the public viewing areas in most cities are starting to become more well visited and in little towns like mine, neighbors are gathering together every night to grill and watch the games together.? It’s a special time, quite apart from the football (or soccer, as we Americans call it) and is this podcast I just wanted to give you a small idea of what’s going on.

For the next podcast I’m taking a poll about the topic, either NUDITY IN GERMANY or NATIONALISM/NAZIS IN GERMANY. It’s your choice, so please vote.

Hello Friends. It’ s high spring in Germany and the Football season is in full bloom. The German Ntl. Team has proven to be not completely reliable in thier performance thus far in the EM football cup this year. Their arch-nemeses from the World Cup, the? Italian Team, have also made it through the initial qualifying rounds into the quarter finals, so it shall prove to be an exciting week. The Mercedes-Benz Marketing department, one of my clients, has recently released a really cool ad showing their support of the German national team. The general idea was to compare the EM tournament to climbing a mountain. In the ad you’ll see the German team dressed as old-school mountain climbers. It’s a cool idea and it turned out to be a cool ad. Check it out:

param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/uZK7vhULRNY”>Some of you might be aware of the fact that I made the move to a start-up company and this is most certainly taking much of my time. I continue to have very little time for podcasting, which, to be very honest, has boiled down to a question of priorities and laziness. At work today I reflected upon what I wanted to do with the MyGermany Podcast. Should I dump it? Let it die an ignoble death through inattention? Should I continue with the audio format or make the jump to video as I had originally planed. I’m not really sure about future, but I do know that I’ll continue to produce content for you and, to be honest, for me. It’s something that I still believe in and I’m still grateful for the high subscription rate and regular listeners. So with that, I’ll leave you with a hint about the next podcast:
