You voted for it and here it is, a podcast about nudity in Germany.
In this episode, I’ll be talking about how the German sensibilities regarding the naked body as well as in what situations and circumstances where it might confront you in your visit to Germany. I do not take a moral stand here, as I think that is the purview of others, but I do try to sensitize you to the fact that perceptions are different in Germany as compared to yours.
Here are a few interesting articles that give you some of the historical-cultural background to the German predilection for nudity:
- Nude in Germany, a brief discussion of German nudist beaches and the nudist movement
- Why German Nudists are Worried, an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal about the East German Nudist Clubs, yesterday and today.
- Get Naked with the Germans, an articel by der Spiegel, one of German’s widely read weekly magazines

Taural,
excellent job. I wish you every success with this. I think you have only scratched the tip of the iceberg with this.
Once upon a lifetime, you and I were both soldiers in Germany. I loved my time there and still miss mant of the people, places and things I was blessed to experience while there.
That being said I was always aware that I was in an occupied land, and as such local reaction to me was contained to say the least.
What has changed in the pulse(heartbeat?) of Germany since our departure?
Naked…yeah! ^__^
Taural
As usual you have done a great job. Very good delivery and I applaud you on how you kept the nature of the topic focused on a cultural level.
I listen to the on the plane when I can go into my own world to remember Germany and take me back to my friends in Gundernhausen.
Someday I will also be an Expat in Germany; it is just a matter of time and logistics.
Till then I will continue to listen to you and remember the days that I cherish back in Germany while in the air between contracts.
I always look forward to your podcasts, please keep up the good work.
Thank you
Darreck
